KINGS HIGHWAY
J and C came to us looking for a new home that balanced the need for accessibility and the desire for privacy and connection to a natural environment.
This new single-family home is the result of close collaboration with the homeowners, one of whom is an industrial designer. All of the details, big and small, are an expression of the client’s and our shared passion for carefully considered and well executed architectural details, and their wish to remain in the home as long as they possibly can.
Our shared goal of optimizing the home’s energy efficiency meant that we had to be judicious about the quantity and placement of windows, so we decided to concentrate them toward the wooded portions of the site and wrap the metal roofing over the facades that face the road. This creates a stark contrast between an urbane street side presence, and a warm, protected, externally focused environment immediately upon entering the driveway.
